Wealth Management

Growing and protecting your investments, with one consistent process managed in house.

Our approach

Wealth management means two things: growing your investments and protecting them. The same due diligence applies whatever the wrapper, whether that is an ISA, an international portfolio bond or a pension.

We manage this in house rather than outsourcing it at additional cost to you.

Risk-graded portfolios

Your money is normally invested in one of a range of risk-graded portfolios. Lower-risk models hold more cash, bonds and absolute return funds; higher-risk models hold mostly equities, including emerging and frontier markets.

Most funds we use are regulated UCITS funds. Specialist options, such as unlisted equities and EIS or UCIS investments, are available through your adviser where they suit you.

Our investment solution

We combine passive and active management, adjusting the balance to the market cycle and the wider economy.

Many active funds fail to beat their benchmark after fees, so our portfolios blend low-cost passive funds with carefully selected active managers. We charge a flat fee rather than commission, so our advice is never tied to a product.

Including wrap charges, our portfolios cost less than 1% a year.

Asset allocation

How your money is spread across asset classes matters more than picking individual managers. Every model holds at least two asset classes, and allocations are reviewed every week.

One platform, one view

Your investments are held on an online platform that shows everything in one place, with access at any time and monthly balance and performance reporting.

On the platforms we mainly use, there is no platform charge to you.

Other investment options

Through a SIPP you can access structured products and commercial property.

We can also introduce specialist partners for hedge funds, EIS schemes and contracts for difference. These carry higher risk and are not suitable for everyone.

Passive and active

Our default blend is 65% passive and 35% non-passive. Depending on the risk-graded model, this can move to 50/50 or 80/20.

The non-passive part may include tactical cash positions, used to help manage risk and return.
